After several months of work with Praxis Resilient Buildings, Hormipresa celebrates at Rebuild 2022 the Passivhaus certification of our ArcticWall system. It is the first industrialised structural system in a factory with architectural concrete to achieve it.

What is ArcticWall?
Hormipresa exclusivity, ArcticWall consists of a structural construction system with architectural concrete totally industrialised. In a single piece we integrate 3 very important functions which are the structural function, the thermal and acoustic insulation function and the exterior architectural concrete finish without maintenance. But the ArcticWall system is not only the load-bearing wall, but an integral structural envelope system that includes details of anchorages to the foundation, prestressed slabs, roof details, overhangs… With the ArcticWall system we develop very different projects according to the architect’s customised design and the developer’s needs. With the industrialised Hormipresa system we provide guarantees that the on-site execution of the finished envelope is minimal with a much higher durability than conventional systems.

High energy efficiency
Certifying ArcticWall as a Passivhaus institute approved component in the warm temperate climate zone has been a major challenge to demonstrate the high thermal comfort performance of the system.
As Oliver Style, the engineer who led the certification of our system, recalls, Passivhaus component certification for a building system is far more demanding than any other energy certification. You have to justify that there are no thermal bridges and that the envelope is perfectly insulated without discontinuity. The level of demand of the Passivhaus standard is much higher than the energy certification in force today in Spain.
At Hormipresa all our prefabricated houses are three times more energy efficient than houses insulated on the inside. Many companies or systems claim to be efficient with A certification, but very few would achieve the certification by the Passivhaus institute. That is why we felt it was important to mobilise technical resources to achieve this, relying on the potential and high performance of the ArcticWall. Thanks to the ArcticWall solution, Hormipresa walls are Passivhaus certified and guarantee maximum savings thanks to their efficiency. Our systems guarantee maximum thermal stability of the house. With the minimum use of air conditioning or heating, as the high level of insulation of the envelope requires a very low energy demand. When you buy your house in Hormipresa, you are opting for a house of passive or near-zero consumption, thanks to the use of bioclimatic architecture resources.
Prefabricated house and passive house
At HORMIPRESA LIVING we have been advising families, architects and developers for more than 50 years on the design and construction of highly efficient industrialised concrete housing. We produce in our factories the construction elements of a single-family or multi-family home, such as slabs, façade walls, partition walls and roofing, which are assembled and erected on site in just a few days.
The industrialisation of construction has contributed from the outset to making our houses environmentally friendly, in particular by reducing material waste through mass production, and by producing almost no waste at the site where the house is installed.
